Traditionally, self-hosting has been available only to the technical elite, those with enough time and knowledge to setup their own server and install various self-hosted services on it. This has meant that for everyone else, the only software available was software that runs on only one device, or software that uses the cloud to so that the same data can be accessed by any device and shared between users.

There have been a few products created over the past ten years that make self-hosting simpler, but they are missing key features, such as an integrated offsite backup solution, that require some level of technical knowledge still to implement yourself.

At OYCS, we believe that they privacy, security, and power of self-hosting should be available even to those without an abundance of time or technical knowledge. To that end, we've created a complete platform for self-hosting, that includes everything you need to keep you family's data accessible and safe. We work to continually improve our onboarding and migration processes so that no matter where you are coming from, you can move your family's data and core digital services to your infrastructure.

However, just because we strive for simplicity and ease-of-use doesn't mean that we don't allow you to expand and customize your home server if you do have the technical knowledge to do so. We welcome and support users who want to build on top of our platform with their own apps, services, and customizations by providing detailed technical documentation and relevant source code. We've built our systems on top of several popular open source projects, such as Kubernetes, Caddy, Blocky, MariaDB, PostgreSQL, and Postfix, so that it's even easier for technical users to understand and expand on our architecture if they wish.
